Warranted or Not Warranted?

Answer: Last week, we showed you a ceiling light fixture that contained dead bugs and asked you if you thought it was something that was covered under the warranty.

To help us out with the answer, we asked Karin, a Warranty Services Representative at Tarion.

Karin: “What we do in these instances is determine if there is a defect in workmanship or materials that is causing the situation to occur. For example, are the bugs getting in because the ceiling fixture is broken, or not properly installed? When we visited the home to inspect the fixture, there was no indication of either.

“Quite simply, this is a story of a few intrepid insects and the regular homeowner maintenance that is required to deal with them. Let’s face it, there aren’t too many people out there who like dealing with bugs. But because there is no construction defect, this is not something that would be covered by the builder’s new home warranty.”

Answer: Not Warranted.
